One business insight

📰 TL;DR: trying to appeal to everyone appeals to no one. Creating a perosnal monopoly for a niche market is the best way to create opportunities and lasting success.

💡 Insight: Naval famously once spoke about the future being made up of Amazon like businesses and then millions of one person monopolies. What he means by this is that everyone has something to offer. This only works when they foucs on doing one thing really well for a select group of people.

The solution: start looking for clues as to what your personal monopoly could be. The best ones are a crossover of personal interets, what the world needs and what can be monetized. Be patenient as it takes time. Keep moving until you receive the right signals on something which can stick.

By committing to one thing and doing it long enough, you can become the most skilled. This is what cements you as the go to person, meaning you can command higher prices and work with high value people.

One copy tip:

📰 TL;DR: you wouldn’t go to the gym and instantly lift the heaviest object you can find without warming up. Writing is know different. Prime your writing muscle to get in the zone by handwriting successful copy for 20-30 minutes.

💡 Insight: even the most experienced writers understand the importance of getting in the zone. They know that it’s hard to produce exceptional writ ing on the first attempt. It’s all about being creative and making edits as you go.

The prescription: take 20-30 minutes to hand copy successful writing out on paper, prior to your main writing session. This gets you in the zone and teaches your brain what great copy looks like. Find pieces online such as successful adverts or newsletters you resonate with and start copying.

One performance tool

📰 TL;DR: everything you were taught about salt at school is wrong. 6g a day in the minimum amount to stay hydrated for optimal performance.

💡 Insight: the average person is guilt of not drinking enough water. Humans are made up mostly of water so it makes sense that we need to drink a lot. Water alone won’t get the job done. You need salt which contains vital minerals and vitamins.

The prescription: upon waking, wisk up yourself the ultimate electrolyte cocktail: 3g of salt, half a life squeezed and some spring water. This will set you up for the day. If you want something better tasting which is ready to go, try LMNT.

Google just released their own version of the Facebook ad libary. This is a goldmine for marketers running ads.

Build in public update

📰 TL;DR: how I found my first paying client.

A lot of people are in a similar position trying to land their first client. Here’s what worked for me. This is the most difficult stage but trust me, it gets easier after this.

The strategy: my approach was simple: approach interesting looking people with some free work and ideas, stay consistent and trust that one of them will turn into a paying client.

Why it works: It sounds simple because it is. Simple is important at this stage. Don’t overcomplicate things, just create your offer and angle, then focus on outreach with serious intensity.

For context, I was doing this for nearly a month near enough full time (after previous failed experiments) and only then did I land one paying client.

Being consistent is key because timing plays a huge role. Paying clients will be those who see your value but also really need your value at that moment in time, so you have to show up every day.
