Change your scenery to change your life
Here's why your environment is holding you back...

My latest scenery shift: a houseboat in London
Hey friend,
Remember the feeling of being stuck in one place, constantly in a state of survival? That was me, lingering in my childhood bedroom, surrounded by reminders of the past while my dreams of growth and business success felt out of reach..
Same Surroundings Same Problems
Each day in that house was a repeat of the last. The same walls, the same streets, the same routine. My energy was sapped, creativity was blocked and brain fog was high. It wasn't just about business; my whole being was craving a reboot, for a chance to break free from the familiar.
A Different Path
The first step? A room in a friend's house. It was small, but it was my space. Here, I wasn't "the kid" anymore; I was an entrepreneur in the making. As I unpacked my few belongings, I felt a weight lift. In this modest room, my business ideas didn't just circle my mind – they grew as did my mind.
The Catalyst
But it was Cape Town that truly turned the key. Espacing my home town for good was the best decision I ever made. The moment my feet touched the ground, something hit me. The hustle of the city, the ocean, the mountains – it was electrifying. I wasn't just building a business; I was building a life. I found friends for life, a partner and most importantly- myself. Suddenly I knew who I was and had no issue being that person.
Continuous Change
A change of scenery has become my tool of choice for growth. Whether it’s a weekend away to reset, or starting a new chapter in a new country. Finding an environment where you can truly thrive is the best thing you can do for yourself.
My biggest “ah-ha” moments have always happened when changing my surroundings. Everything makes so much more sense, the learnings and changes I craved become truly ingrained. I have so many memories of moments where life-changing decisions and shifts happened to me in a new environment.
From deciding to build a new business while in the mountains of Yosemite. To feeling truly proud of myself for the first time while on the plane to Lisbon. Maybe it’s being relaxed and out of routine, but whatever it is, it works.
Change To Grow
Changing your scenery isn’t a silver bullet to fix all your problems. But it puts you in a stronger position to heal, grow and go on the offence rather than defence. It's not just about seeing new places; it's about seeing new possibilities in yourself. Every new backdrop is a canvas for your story, a chance to paint your dreams in bold.
Often its easier to change your surroundings first.
How To Action This
So, how can you start this journey? Not everyone can hop on a plane with a one-way ticket, but you have more options and control than you think. Here’s my list of ways to change things up:
Take a weekend break by yourself
Explore micro adventures such as backpacking
Work in a new cafe or cowork
Look for remote jobs
Start a business which you can run from anywhere
The key is to build in consistent breaks to take some alone time and change things up. That can be as small as a weekly date with yourself to try something new in your home town. Or it could be as grand as moving to a new country.
Your reality is a reflection of your thoughts. Changing your inputs and scenery is a shortcut to changing your beliefs. What path will you choose?
Until next time.
